Policy work

I have done a lot of advisory work with UK Government departments and agencies and other organisations. In 2016 I acted as a special advisor to a Department for Work and Pensions Select Committee Special Inquiry and in 2017 undertook a secondment with them. In 2017 I worked with the Scottish Government on their devolved funeral policy and in 2020 I advised the Competition and Markets Authority in their sector wide investigation in the funeral industry.

During the COVID-19 pandemic I advised the UK Government Cabinet Office and in 2023 at the request of the UK Chief Medical Officer I contributed to the Health and Safety Executive. In late 2023 I received UKRI funding to produce evidence to submit to the Law Commission in their review of legislation on burial and cremation.

The influence of my policy work was recognised in its submission by the University of Bath as an impact case study to the 2021 REF.
